Palmer’s tactical nous gives
Chelsea An early lead against Everton
Off the pitch, Cole Palmer’s laid-back attitude and natural comedic timing makes for truly hilarious moments.
“Wot?”
“Chippy chips”
“Jam sandwich”
The man is a walking one-line gold mine.
On the pitch however, his tactical nous and understanding of the game sees him score some great goals. Take for instance Chelsea’s match against Everton this past weekend, where Palmer made only his 2nd start since returning from injury.
In the 20’ minute, Everton’s lacklustre press allowed Fofana to progress the ball up the pitch. As Fofana strides forward, Palmer sees the future—he knows the path to goal. He gestures to Fofana not once, but twice, to pass to Malo Gusto, the inverted right-back free in midfield.
Gusto receives the pass and Palmer knows exactly what he needs to do. He runs beyond the defensive midfielder, through the massive gap between the left-back and centre-back, and latches onto Gusto’s through pass. The first touch is for composure. The second touch is an ice cold finish.
